Thandani Ntshumayelo, 33, Announces Retirement

Former Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United player Thandani Ntshumayelo is hanging up his football boots.

In a statement released on Thursday, 22 June, the 33-year-old revealed that he was retiring from the sport “with immediate effect.”

“It’s a decision that I didn’t take lightly because football has been part of my life,” he said in the statement. “I feel privileged to have realised my dream of becoming a professional footballer.”

Ntshumayelo proceeded to thank SuperSport for giving his big break when he was 18, as well as thanked Pirates for whom he played between 2012 and 2016 until he was banned from the game for drug possession.
Two years later, he went on to play for Bidvest Wits and Moroka Swallows, albeit to little success.

Nevertheless, after thanking his family, Ntshumayelo showed his appreciation to the two clubs as well before thanking his fans: “You have no idea how much your support means to me; I will not be lost to football and our paths will cross again.”
